Regional Discernment Groups
Why Should I Be Involved in a Discernment Group?
Discernment groups provide men an opportunity to come together regularly and support one another in growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ and discerning his will for them. All men who are serious about their faith are encouraged to come - whether they might be dating or not. As long as they are serious about their faith and open to the possibility of a call to ordained ministry, they will find these meetings helpful. Why? Because while discernment groups certainly highlight the question of the priesthood, they provide guidance that is helpful in the discernment of any vocation; tools that are essential for anyone seeking to grow in their faith and knowledge of Christ and his Church. Through common prayer, discussions, and the relationships that are built with local priests and with other men who are discerning, these regular gatherings help to provide men with the support and encouragement they need to grow and deepen their faith and, if they become aware of a possible vocation to the priesthood, the guidance and feedback about how to begin a time of more serious discernment in the seminary.
All Catholic men who are high school age or older and open to a vocation to priestly ministry are invited to come to any of the discernment groups in the diocese. Some groups are predominantly made up of high school aged young men, whereas others are made up of older college age or working men. Please call the group moderator for more information and specifics about how to get to the meeting place and to be placed on the group email list.
