Sister Laurette Levasseur, CSJ

The soul of Sr. Laurette Levasseur, CSJ, is recommended to your prayers. Sister Laurette passed peacefully to the Lord on Saturday, May 11, at the age of 89.

A native of Lewiston, Sister Laurette attended St. Dominic High School and then graduated from the Academy of St. Joseph in South Berwick. She received a bachelor’s degree from La Mennais College in Alfred and a master’s degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyons in 1950.

She served at Holy Family Parish and school in Lewiston, St. John the Baptist School in Winslow, and as a pastoral associate at Our Lady of Peace Parish in Berwick.

She also spent many years in leadership within the community. Her positions included local superior, formation director, provincial superior, provincial treasurer, and archivist, among others.

Her gentle spirit and ready smile endeared her to many.  No doubt she learned patience from the years that she helped raise nine younger siblings.  Life was not easy, but she always found the good in everyone and in all things.

Services:  Wake at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver Street in Waterville, followed immediately by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Please pray for the repose of Sister Laurette’s soul and for the consolation of the loved ones she leaves behind: family, community, and friends.

May her soul and the soul of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
