Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Sr. Dorothy Sullivan, a Sister of Mercy of the Americas who was called home by her maker on September 11, 2020. She was 85 years old, 66 of which were spent in community.

Sr. Dorothy, also known as Sister M. Vincent Ferrer, entered the Sisters of Mercy at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland in 1954. She became an educator par excellence, serving at St. Mary School in Houlton, St. Patrick School, Sacred Heart School, St. Joseph School, and St. Joseph’s Academy in Portland, St. Rose School in Rumford, Holy Cross School in South Portland, and St. Mary School in Augusta.  She served as both a teacher and a principal for middle and junior high grades and also was the assistant principal at Catherine McAuley High School in Portland for 12 years and was known for her enjoyment of the girls' basketball games. Her philosophy was that education should be fun, as well as being academically strong in an orderly atmosphere.  The words of her motto, “To put on Christ” was evident in the various schools at which she ministered.

She was known for her great sense of human and for her quick wit and jokes.

Please pray for the consolation of her Sisters in Community and her beloved family and friends. May her soul and the soul of all the faithful departed rest in peace.  Amen
