A Memorial Day Message from Bishop Deeley

On Memorial Day, we cherish the memory of our dear departed, particularly those who died in the service of our country. We remember the sacrifice of those who served their country, and, in our gratitude, pray for them and entrust these veterans of many wars to the loving embrace of God. The COVID-19 pandemic was particularly hard on our older generation, which meant that a number of older veterans were counted among the dead. Please keep those who died in our Veterans’ Hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities in your prayers in a special way this year. The men and women we remember were people who willingly gave of themselves for others. They thought of their families and their duty as faithful citizens as they fought for the country and defended our way of life. In remembering them, we do more than commemorate their lives and sacrifices. We celebrate and honor the very ideals of liberty and freedom that they personified and protected. With compassion and gratitude, we pray for those who served our country. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
