Archives & Records

The purpose of our archives is to collect, preserve and make available to research the official records of the Diocese which reflect the work of the Church in Maine. The Diocesan Archives seeks to promote an accurate understanding of the origins, goals and accomplishments of the diocese, its parishes and its agencies, and to preserve those historical records which document the Church's presence and mission in the area.

The collection of the archives of the Portland Diocese consists of, but is not limited to, the Official Catholic directories, and the directory of the diocese of Portland, bound copies of the Diocesan newspaper, the "Church World" since its origin (1931), history of parishes, financial records, deeds to land for parish property, and blue prints.

Some copyright restrictions apply.

The office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00AM - 4:00PM by appointment only. If you are searching for information that might be in our Archives, please contact Sr. Rita-Mae Bissonnette 207-773-6471.

If you are seeking individual baptismal records, marriage records, etc., please contact the parish where the sacrament was received. If you need addresses, please see the Parish Directory.
