Housing, Family & Health

The mission of Jesus includes the corporal works of mercy. Among those are housing the homeless and caring for the sick. In addition, family life is the foundation of society and of the Church.

In Maine, the Catholic Church seeks to serve these human needs through countless initiatives at the parish level. Institutions sponsored by the Diocese of Portland, by communities of religious sisters, or by groups of committed lay persons also make clear the Catholic Church’s commitment to serve all people of our State, regardless of their creed.

On this page you will find information about the various Catholic institutions which respond to needs for housing and health care, as well as offer services to strengthen family life in times of difficulty or transition. Contact your local parish to learn how your community is also responding locally to these same needs.
