Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) has been providing weekends of enrichment for couples, priests, and religious for 40 years. Any married couple who desires a richer, fuller life together will benefit from attending a WWME weekend whether they have been married for only a short time or many years. A Marriage Encounter weekend is also ideal for priests and religious who are ready to experience a deepened and enriched sense of their vocation in life.

A WWME weekend is a private couple experience that revitalizes Christian marriage and helps couples become excited about each other and about their relationship. If, over the years, your sense of romance and passion has given way to practicality, spending a weekend together re-connecting is something you deserve.

During the weekend, a series of presentations are given by a team of three Catholic couples and one Catholic priest. They provide a rare opportunity for attendees to look at themselves as individuals, then to look at their spousal relationships, as well as their vocations and relationship to God, the Church, and the world. The presentations are given to the group as a whole. After each presentation, the husband and wife have time in the privacy of their room for their own personal reflection and discussion. Sharing in the group is not required by participants.

Many concepts are presented that are just the beginning of a lifetime of exploration. The emphasis of the weekend is on developing a communication technique that fosters a deep and intimate connection in a spirit of love and understanding. After the weekend, this newly acquired technique helps husbands and wives to continue to grow closer together and to live more joyful and purposeful lives.

The weekend is Catholic in orientation and is expressed in the tradition and understanding of the Catholic Church. However, anyone is welcome and spaces are available for couples of other faiths.

The weekend starts at 8:00 pm on Friday night and runs until about 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon. A non-refundable application fee of $50 confirms your place on the weekend. At the end of the weekend, each couple is given a blank envelope and asked to make a freewill donation. No one is ever refused the opportunity to make a weekend because of the lack of money. In Maine, Marriage Encounter Weekends are usually held at hotels. There can be a waiting list for the weekend, so applying in advance is highly encouraged.
