All Souls' Day
"The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God." - Wisdom 3:1
November 2nd is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, often referred to as All Souls' Day. On this day, we pray for the souls of those who have died and are still in purgatory, being prepared for eternal life in heaven. We believe that we remain connected with members of the Church after death and that we can help those souls in purgatory through our prayers. Praying for the dead is one of the spiritual works of mercy.
Below you will find some Masses, services, and other commemorations of All Souls' Day. Unless otherwise noted, all Masses and observances are on Thursday, November 2, 2023.

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland - The Consoling Hearts Ministry will present a Mass of Remembrance celebrated by Bishop Robert P. Deeley on Thursday, November 2, at 6 p.m.
Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, East Millinocket
St. Martin of Tours Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket - A candlelight ceremony and Mass of Remembrance will be held at 5 p.m. for all the deceased loved ones who passed away during the past year.

St. Peter Church, 27 Owens Street, Bingham - A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 2, at 2:30 p.m.
St. Sebastian Church, 161 Main Street, Madison - A Mass for all departed souls will be celebrated Friday, November 3, at 8 a.m.

St. David Church, 774 Main Street, Madawaska - A Memorial Mass for the deceased of the parish will be celebrated at 6 p.m.
Our Lady of Hope Parish, Portland
St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland - All Souls' Day Mass on Thursday, November 2, at 4 p.m. for those who have died in the past year.
Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, Oquossoc
St. Luke Church, 19 Lake Street, Rangeley - A Mass for All Souls will be celebrated Saturday, November 4, at noon. During the Mass, the names of parishioners who died within the past year will be read aloud. Prayers will also be offered for all deceased relatives and friends.
Our Lady of the Valley Parish, Saint Agatha
St. Agatha Church, 379 Main Street, St. Agatha - A special candlelight Mass will be held at 6 p.m. for all deceased loved ones, especially those who have passed away during the past year. Prayers will also be offered for those who have had miscarriages or lost a child due to addiction or suicide.
St. Luce Church, 441 U.S. Route One, Frenchville - An All Souls' Day Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m.
Parish of the Holy Eucharist, Falmouth
Sacred Heart Church, 326 Main Street, Yarmouth - All Souls' Day Mass on Thursday, November 2, at 8 a.m., and on Saturday, November 10, 6:30 p.m. go 7:30 p.m., the Psalterium Institute Chamber Choir at Sacred Heart Church will sing the Votive Office of the Dead and choral preludes and postludes.

St. Athanasius & St. John Church, 126 Maine Avenue, Rumford - A Mass will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m. for all the souls in purgatory who have no one to pray for them.
Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Old Town
Holy Family Church, 429 Main Street, Old Town - A Mass for All the Faithful Departed will be celebrated at 8 a.m., and the parish will celebrate its annual Mass of Remembrance at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 2. During the Mass, candles will be lit as the names of the deceased are read aloud. On Saturday, November 4, a traditional Latin Requiem Mass will be celebrated for all the faithful departed at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church.
